Author: Shawna Ayoub

Shawna Ayoub is a Durham-based writer who practices and instructs classes focused on writing through trauma to truth and other forms of nonfiction. Her teaching and writing are equally informed by indoctrinated heterosexuality, racial,  gender-based and religious violence, and identity. She is driven to write on difficult topics that support others in recognizing their own marginalizations in order to break free from societally imposed limitations wherever possible. Shawna teaches regular 6-week courses at the Center for Creative Writing that span the genres. She also teaches independently and through OLLI at Duke, the Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South, and Survive Your Story. She is currently serving as the Director of Programs for Literary Liberation.   Her bylines have appeared in Verywell Mind, Survivor Lit, HuffPost, [wherever] magazine, The Archipelago and The Manifest-Station, Heart and Humanity Magazine, Equally Wed and the Center for Creative Writing website, among other places.
